ANSSI KELA'S ACOUSTIC BOARD had stayed intact for five years. Anssi had used it a lot when playing solo shows, but to make most out of his new autobiographical shows, he needed to upgrade his effects selection. Although the original board was made from premium components, the board lacked in effects. It sported only a preamp, a tuner and a looper.
Anssi wanted to have atmospheric sounds, so we added a Walrus Audio Slö for landscaping ambient reverbs and EHX Synth9 for synth sounds. When testing the signal chain during building process, these two sounded marvelous together. The looper was also upgraded to a more powerful unit, so there is more sonic possibilities to cover with this setup
Because of the additions, we needed to upgrade the power supply from Voodoo Lab Pedal Power ISO-5 to Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 4X4. Anssi wanted to keep his board light and easy to carry with, so we didn't want to upgrade it to a bigger one. To make this happen, we had to use additional jacks for input and output, as the board’s main connections were now hidden in the middle.
Solution was to install a Best-Tronics interface panel with XLR and TRS connectors on top of the board. This way we could squeeze everything to a small footprint. Weight- and sizewise one important factor was also to change the bulky Peterson tuner to a smaller and more faster reacting Sonic Research Turbo Tuner Mini.
